Lucas Thorpewas born in 1970 and raised in New York City. He was a professional sailor before shifting his interest to photography and completing a BFA in Studio Art from the University of New Mexico in 2006. Lucas completed an MFA in Photography, Video and Related Media at The School of Visual Arts in 2008. He has shown his work in a number of group shows in New York City and his photographs have appeared in Metropolis Magazine, The Journal, Dear Dave Magazine and Wired. Online his work has been featured on the Photography Post, I Heart Photograph, Humble Arts, LOZ, Wanderlustagraphy and the Chinese photography blog 1416 Classroom. Lucas is a Staff Member in the BFA Photography Department at The School of Visual Arts. He is on the board of directors for The Camera Club of New York. He lives in New York City with his wife the writer Nancy Rawlinson and his son Erasmus.
